Genesis 15 – What is a covenant

1. God Himself will be the shield and reward for us
2. Abram wants God to make a covenant (Agreement) to already made promise in Genesis 12 which Abram and us will now understand.
3. It is customary when making covenants to cut an animal and walk in between to complete the pact – So God does it in the way that Abram understands.
4. Covenants can be broken with a consequence but not when a Promise takes care of that – so now look this below.
#1 Heifer – Representing Abrahamic covenant until it leads to Law
#2 female Goat – Represents the Law till it acts as a guardian until Grace in the form of Christ appeared.
#3 Ram represents Christ. All Law is fulfilled in Him and the sacrificial lamb’s blood is shed. Now the age of Goats separates from Sheep happens.
All the above is cut into half and the below is not.
#4 Turtle Dove represents the Spirit of Jesus – Holy Spirit who will be the peacemaker and comforter leading us to God and He is the promise keeper.
#5 The pigeon is the role of Holyspirit announcing the Gospel – the good news bringing people to the God – Royal priests, Holy nation…
Now God makes Abraham to sleep and walks with a light and burning torch in between the animals completing the pact.
Later in John 8:56 Jesus says that your father Abraham waited long to see this moment – meaning God revealed the human history and redemption plan to The Great Abraham – Gods best friend.
